Today I am going to talk about how I calibrate the ICC Color Profile of a particular paper with for my Canon imagePROGRAPH PRO-4000 printer.
Although the paper manufacturers do provide the ICC profiles for their papers and given printers, which on average work quite good, when looking for excellence, you need to obtain a custom ICC profile for the specific paper-printer.
For this explanation I will use a new canvas that I have ordered, Hahnemühle Canvas Metallic. I am entering the store where my order arrived.
The canvas comes well protected and you need to use gloves when handling and setting the paper on the roll unit, in this case I am using the second roll unit.
Once the paper/canvas is placed on the roll holder, and on its position in the printer, you leave the printer auto upload the paper, which works well with thinner papers.
As the canvas I was using is thick, I had to manually upload it, then setting on the printer menu, the type of paper/canvas, so it know what material was loaded on this second roll unit.
Using Canon printing tool I send to the printer the 4 pages with the 2033 color patches .
Once printed and dried for at least 24 hours, I send these patches to a service provider that will scan each color comparing the color difference of what was printed versus what is expected, generating the custom ICC profile that I will sing to the Canvas setting on the printer for future printing of this particular canvas.
