Honor your Eyes: A Photographer’s Journey of Curiosity, Water, and Color

WA Photographer’s Journey of Curiosity and Color

From my earliest memories, I’ve followed a photographer’s journey of curiosity and color. I grew up in La Paz, Bolivia, surrounded by vibrant mountains and dramatic landscapes. Even as a child, I saw the world differently—colors, shapes, and light called to me in ways I couldn’t explain.

Inspired by Nature’s Palette

Rain would awaken the Andes. Browns turned rich and earthy, purples deepened, oranges lit up like fire, and even sparse greens stood proud against the stone. These colors, unfolding after each storm, left a lasting impression.

During trips to the subtropics near La Paz, I crossed La Cumbre, a 4,650-meter pass. From snowy peaks to lush Yungas forests, the transformation in landscape—and in light—was breathtaking. I didn’t know it then, but these journeys were shaping my visual voice.

Early Influences and a Love for Color

My grandfather’s National Geographic collection and Van Gogh art books were my early teachers. They showed me how color tells stories. Later, watching images develop in the darkroom only deepened that fascination.

I’ve come to realize that much of my work captures water: droplets, rivers, reflection, movement. This discovery became clear when I won three awards in a photography contest centered around water—including first place.

Let Your Eyes Lead You

For anyone walking their own photographer’s journey of curiosity and color, here’s my advice: trust your eyes. Let them guide your focus. Forget the rules. Follow your feelings.

As Ansel Adams once said: “There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs.”

A Vision That Flows Like Water

Photography isn’t just about technique—it’s about connection. My prints honor the relationship between eye and emotion. They celebrate curiosity, color, and the stories nature whispers to those who pay attention.
